about

When Covid-19 appeared, I was furloughed from my truck driving job. I had been driving a tanker truck for the last six years, primarily fueling school buses. However when the schools were closed indefinitely, I became extremely frustrated. I had a family of 5 children that are depending on me. And I had not idea if and when schools would reopen. This song is a result of my feelings and my frustration with the whole experience. I hope that you enjoy it as much as I did writing and recording it.

lyrics

My hands are blackened from the work I do

Its the working man’s sin I’m living through

My knees they ache, my hips are sore

My feet they don't move that much anymore

I am what I am
And the road I walk
It's my own
It's what I do

I envy no man
And how he lives
For the path
that he must choose

I’ve tried to make/ a better life
For my kids /and for my wife.
We take one step forward/ and
two steps back
For There are no certainties
In this life.

Chorus

I’ve am what I am
And the road I walk
It's my own
It's what I do

Take my burdens
Take my pain
There is no sorrow
I feel no shame

You can’t see the light
‘til you’ve Lived/ through the darkness
And you can’t tell a man what to believe
Until you walk in that man’s shoes.

I am what I am
And the road I walk
It's my own
It's what I do

Take my burdens
Take my pain
There is no sorrow
I feel no shame.

Spoken)
We all have a ghost or two in our closet.
We all drag a chain that we've forged in our lives.

about

Stan Matthews Worcester, Massachusetts

I’m a solo artist . My music is stark, stripped bare, the lyrics are honest. I sing about life from the perspective of the working man. My songs take you on life’s journey; search for love, joy of a child’s birth, the struggle of relationships, the anguish at the loss of a job, the sorrow at a loved one’s passing. I perform locally and my music can be heard on radio worldwide. ... more
